I am a person big on character, and some of my favorite quotes to live by are...1. "the time is always right, to do the right thing." 2. "its not what you do but how you do it." 3. "what do people say about you when your name is mention." I believe that all of these quotes play into each other. And if you live in such a way that includes these three sayings I believe you will be on the right track to becoming a person you should be proud to be. So the next time you are faced with a difficult situation whether that moment be filled with hate, bigotry, discrimating or just plain comes across the wrong way - remember in that moment to stop - breath and think. Don't let someone who is or acting in a way that is below you bring you to their level. Don't act less of the person that you are to prove something that well doesn't matter. If you want to prove something take the high road, do what is right. Have your actions stand for something - that is positive that brings good to this world not negative and hate. For in the end its not what you do in this life but how you do it and live it. Trust me how you handle certain moments where you want so badly to slap someone cross the face or to take the low and easy road plays a huge role in how you live this life.
A quote from Maya Angelou's grandmother " You know what's right. Just do what's right, be all you can be." Its really that simple.

Taking the high road.
"Too many times for comfort I have expected to reap good when I know I have sown evil. My lame excuse is that I have not always known that actions can only reproduce themselves, or rather, I have not always allowed myself to be aware of that knowledge." -Maya Angelou
Often I find myself thinking I deserve this or that because of this reason and that. But the truth is that sometimes the only thing we get for doing the right thing is just that, doing the right thing. We shouldn't be entitled because of good deeds or good behavior. The truth of the matter is people get what they have coming. People will treat you how you treat them. Karma is out there trust me. I sometimes see people who think they belong high on a shelf. These are the people that do the right thing only when someone is watching. Its hard I know to do what is right - esp when no one is watching. It could be so easy to do this or that but in the end we are only cheating ourselves. It is ourselveswe have to live with. And that inner voice will do all sorts of things to our minds and bodies. Its a voice you can never reason with nor can you shut out. Most often than not we find ourselves in such a place because we are lazy or we just don't take the time to think before we act....
Taking the high road can be quite a long and consuming journey that can be beyond exhausting and very difficult. Not everyone can take that road. But when I get to that spot in the road where I meet someone that challenges me and makes me want to grab them right by the throat and shake them as hard as possible or at least slap some sense into them - I stop. I gather myself and just breathe. I take one big breath in and hold it to the count of ten and let it out. And say to myself its truly not worth it. Its not worth me dropping to their level and become less of the person I am only in return to make them more of a person that they are not. Attitude it truly does play a role in all of our actions.
So the next time you find yourself in that situation stop. And remember that if you are reaping evil you will only receive more. If you are acting in evil ways its only a matter of time til they become second nature to you. For I have found a good deed always follows a good deed and the same can be said about evil but in many cases its always doubled.

your story matters.
Ever have someone in your life that you would like to just shout out from the roof tops the talent and gifts they carry? Ever has somoene you are just so proud to have in your life. Yet they have no clue the gift that their life is or the talent that lies in their soul. They look at themsleves in the mirror and struggle with what and who they see looking back at them. They lock their beauty and talents tightly up. In pure fear. Fear they might be exposed. Fear they might be rejected. Fear they might be seen less as the person they want others to see them as. Fear they aren't good enough. Just fear. Its sad when you look at them in complete amazement. Its painful when you know the beauty that lies in their soul. Its almost unbareble when you know that their life matters in so many ways. So how do I ask you, do you get someone to see such a thing. How do you get them to understand the gift of their life. How do you show them that just being you is always enough. Its a work in progress... a fight that is constantly fought yet one that never should be let go of. Because to me each of us has a story... a life story and that story is always one to be heard. Because every single one of us... Matters. We all bring something to the table of life... and if just one of us didn't it (didn't think our life mattered) would have a ripple effect on life... like a pebble being thrown into the pond the ripples spread to places even the eye can't see... You have a gift. You matter. You make a difference in lives (in people you already know and in the lives you don't even think of). Your story matters... Continue to live it with every single fabric that makes up your soul.

Sometimes.
Sometimes I find myself wanting to hear your voice. Sometimes I just want to see your face. Sometimes I just want to call you up. Sometimes I just want to meet you for a beer. Sometimes I just want to sit in silence and just listen music or take in the outdoors. Sometimes I think of you and wonder what you are doing. Sometimes I miss you. Sometimes I wonder if you miss or think of me too. Sometimes I wonder if you will ever forgive me. Sometimes I wonder if you will ever let me back into your life. Sometimes remembering is just too much... of recalling what once had been and how time has changed. Sometimes I wonder if our paths will ever cross again. Sometimes I wonder if the phone will ever ring. If I will hear your voice. If I will see your face. If I will meet you for a beer. I wonder if we will ever get pass the mountain that is between us. I have faith that one day we will. Because I just can't imagine a living life with no regrets without you my friend in it.

Regrets
We all have something that we wish we could take back. We all have something called regret. If we didn't have at least one of these such things we wouldn't be human. Because that's what we do...we fail. We mess up. We make mistakes. We are quick with our words when our thoughts and feelings truly don't agree. We hurt.
Yet the truth of it is that somethings can never be taken back. Some mistakes are unfixable and some mess ups can't fully be cleaned up. Sometimes no matter how hard we try we can't put things back together and pretend like nothing ever went wrong. In the end all we are left to is living with it.
We can try to forget but well even when I try I still remember. It will sneak up on you in your moments of the day sometimes invited as a friendly reminder of the lessons you learned from the regret(s) you carry in your life. Sometimes they blind side you and suck the life right out of you. And sometimes its just constant-you can never escape it. You learn to pick it up each day and carry it with you...in the same way you brush your teeth and put your socks on each morning. You try so hard to find ways to put it down but its hold is too deep.
What's the point of regret? Well I am still learning...but I am sure it has to deal with learning. I am sure its there to haunt us with what happens when we hurt. When we are less than who we are. When we know our actions are wrong and still go about doing them. Regret are wounds that never fully heal-we are forced to adjust our life around them so they in the end become apart of our life. Which is mainly why I refuse to have even one. But even I am not above such things. Maybe someday I will just carry such things with me without even knowing-kind of like brushing my teeth-i don't think about having to do it...I just do it. And yet sometimes I hope I never do forget the mistakes I have made and the hurt I have caused so I know and learn from them. So in some way I become better and more because of the regrets I have and not less.

fitting in a box
I am sitting with my legs up on my desk watching the snow gently fall from a endless white gray sky while I enjoy my prep period. Today while teaching I couldn't help but look at the sea of faces that sit before me....each face has a story that is all their own...they are troublemakers, preps, nerds and jocks but they are so much more than that...in high school we tend to stereo-type people...we want everyone to fit in this perfect box-we think that we have to fall under a certain word--jock-nerd-cheerleader-rebel...but really one word can never define us so why is it while in high school we try just that?
I see their faces and realize that there's a huge chance that at least one of them won't graduate, one will get arrested, one will get caught up in drugs and booze, one will be bullied the other the bully, one will get a full ride to play sports after college, one will feel their best years were hs bc of the spotlight they lived in and had to give up after graduation. One or two many only have a few years left on this earth, one will battle a terminal illness, all will struggle with find themselves and their place in this world one time or another, all will face changes and challenges that will forever alter their lives. Its a given that somethings in life we will never escape or avoid. We must go thru in order to find ourselves and to find happiness.
Recently I was informed of a private personal battle of someone in my life that I have complete respect and admiration had to go thru while in jr high-high school and lasted until a few years ago. After hearing their story this person would prolli think they lost all of the positive thoughts and comments I made over the years...but the truth is I have even more respect and admiration for this person...and the only thing I am bothered by or upset by is the fact this person was trapped in a world of their own darkness for so long. That this person felt like they had to wear a mask and full fill the role that so many thought this person should live in. I am more proud of this person now than I ever was back in high school. Granted it was a journey this person had to take all alone in so many ways and risk losing so many in their life-they kept walking and holding on. I know it wasn't easy at all and its prolli still not but I think after opening themselves up and telling their story this person found a whole network of support and has realize people love for the person's soul and true being...what counts the most is what lies on the inside of the skin not the outside. And the only true thing that really matters are the thoughts of those who truly care about us and not all those who don't know us.
It takes great courage sometimes to be who we really are-to admit we are not perfect-to go after what makes us happy knowing that that might upset a few in our lives and even lose a few.
So I sit and look at these young faces of tomorrow's future and I know there lies so many stories so many struggles...but its also a room filled with hope, humanity and compassion...that one day we won't stereo type. One day we won't judge someone by what lies on the outside of their skin but what lies on the inside. One day we won't judge at all and if we do we only judge ourselves. One day we will see that we all struggle we all face challenges we all are imperfect! We are all different and that is the one factor that makes us all the same.
High school is a tough time for all we want is to fit in while yet in a world where fitting in is pretty much impossible as well as completely over rated! Then add on the fact we are all trying to figure ourselves out and finding out who we are and where we are going. I say to all those who feel they are standing there its okay I am ten years out of high school and I am still tryin to find myself and know myself I just gave up on fitting into a certain box and being perfect.
What I have learned thru someone else as well as myself is this...happiness isn't based on how many amazing-caring-loving people you have in your life---or just how many people you know or friends you have.
Happiness isn't seen thru the eyes of others when they see your life...it isn't how they think or know that so much lies in your soul-you carry so much with-so many talents and gifts to share.
Happiness isn't based on the love and friendship you have in your life.
Happiness is felt and seen in the eyes of one person only---YOU! How you see yourself-how you feel on the inside. Its your thoughts-your feelings-your own journey to from around through there and back an endless journey to happiness...filled some times more with struggles, battles, darkness and demons than it is of all the good stuff...but we keep walking anyways because those moments are worth it! We don't have to make sense on our quest and we don't need to know the way or even the need to know where we are truly going...we just need to listen to you soul and live the best we can and hopefully one day it will all make sense hopefully one day we will find our true selves and with that find personal happiness.so don't worry about fitting in or being perfect worry about not being true to ourselves-not listenin to what are souls are telling us! The rest life always finds a way.

not everyone stands by their word.
How can people be so well just stupid?? And as a person who is smart enough to know better I sure play stupid like that's all I know! I have been slowly gettin more torked off since October and it doesn't matter what I try to do to escape the anger and hurt I carry it with me and it never leaves. I would love to just be mad at the person that has caused all this yet I can't be.instead I find ways to be mad at myself for being so so stupid.
I am stupid to allow myself to just get mad at myself and not the true person I should be upset with. But its a hard thing to deal with and get over and move on when that person doesn't even give you the time of day to get things settled! And what tears at me the most is the fact that this person is suppose to be one of my oldest friends. It just goes to show you that any one can screw you over and even the people that you think care truly about you as a being...turns out they are willing to drop you no questions asked.
I thought I was the kind of person whose friends can come to with anything. I guess I am completely wrong about the kind of person I am to the people in my life. And maybe I am not at all the person I hoped to be...I have much to grow into and learn from. And I guess the true meanin of all of this is the slap in the face I need to come back to reality...and realize that this life and its my life...I have to deal with it even if I don't want to. Word of advice be careful who you trust and not everyone stands behind their word.
